For much of my career, I have worked deep in technology: Software engineering, Architecture, Cloud, App Modernisation and more recently, Sovereign Cloud and AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over time, my work has increasingly moved towards the decisions that surround the technology. What problem is worth solving?
Where should an organisation invest?
What should come first?
What will it take to make an idea work in Production?
A recent change in my own role has brought those questions much closer to the centre of what I do. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I have joined Simplok<\/a>, where I am helping grow our customer relationships, shape opportunities and connect business priorities with the technology and delivery needed to address them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n That change will also shape what I write about here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Technology conversations can quickly become discussions about Products, Platforms and Architecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Those choices matter once we understand the decision that needs to be made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n An App Modernisation program, for example, may eventually involve Containers, Cloud Platforms and Application architecture. The useful starting questions are usually about:<\/p>\n\n\n\n The same applies to AI. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Building a convincing AI demonstration has become relatively easy. Putting AI into Production requires decisions about: The technology choice sits within that larger picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Moving closer to business and strategy has also reinforced something I have believed for a long time: useful technology strategy needs enough technical depth to survive implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A decision to modernise an application eventually becomes a set of architecture, testing, deployment and operational decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n An AI strategy eventually has to deal with: A Cloud strategy eventually meets the realities of existing systems, skills, cost and organisational change. <\/p>\n\n\n\n This is where I think my background remains useful. I enjoy moving between these layers – from understanding the problem and shaping the decision through to making the solution work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This blog has largely been a place for technical notes, code samples and things I have learned while working with software and cloud platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I plan to broaden that scope.
